Pop-A-Lock of Baton Rouge opened in 1991 as a “Car Door Unlocking Company” and introduced Pop A Lock’s signature Emergency Car Door Unlocking (EDU) service as a free public service to the Baton Rouge Metro Area. By 1998 the company had 10 full time employees and its EDU service had become a critical component of the area’s 911 emergency response system, averaging over 20 EDUs per month. By 1998 the company services expanded to roadside assistance services, including tire changes, jump-starts and fuel deliveries. In 1999, in response to requests from customers, the company began offering automotive, residential and commercial locksmith services. By 2004, the company employed 14 car door unlocking technicians and 4 full-time locksmiths.

In January 2005, the Pop-A-Lock of Baton Rouge was acquired from the founders by Tulane University graduate and Board Certified Safety Professional Paul H. Sewall III. A few months later, August 29, 2005 arrived with a bang called Hurricane Katrina. The mandatory evacuation of the city forced the company to rapidly expand to service the influx of evacuees form the New Orleans area. This expansion included the temporary re-location of many employees from the New Orleans location. By early 2006 the majority of our New Orleans employees had returned to the New Orleans area and to Pop-A-Lock. Today, Pop-A-Lock of Baton Rouge continues to be one of the most successful franchisees in the Pop-A-Lock system. The majority of our 16+ employees are licensed locksmiths and the company still provides EDUs as a free public service.
